Inverto Digital Labs to Support HbbTV on its hybrid settop-boxes and demonstrate at IBC 2009 together with Pleyo a range of hybrid TV applications

WECKER, Luxembourg, PARIS, France — Inverto Digital Labs announced it is becoming a supporting member of the HbbTV standard and said its retail HD+ hybrid set-top box platform Scena 6 planned to hit the German market in Q1 2010 will support the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) standard. HD+ is a service of HD PLUS GmbH, a subsidiary of the satellite operator SES ASTRA (Paris and Luxembourg: SESG).

The hybrid set-top box platform will incorporate a CE-HTML browser from Pleyo that is working together with Inverto on providing a rich selection of web-based widgets. The parties will demonstrate at IBC a wide selection of hybrid applications including ARD’s catch-up service for the Tagesschau newscasts, access to ZDF’s Mediathek library with hundreds of on-demand programmes, access to RTL’s super-text service which also combines streaming clips on demand as well as a large number of widgets such as news feeds, mailboxes, weather updates, Twitter, stocks and games.

“The German market is leading a disruptive change, consumers in Germany will be the first to benefit from an enriched viewing experience that is significantly enhanced by multimedia over broadband. HbbTV is the world’s first standard that approaches the opportunity for endless new services” commented Tomer Bentzion, Chief Executive Officer at Inverto.

“The merger of Broadcast and Broadband universes in the TV industry is a great evolution, that allows for new and fantastic services, novel smart products and major enhancements! We’re very thrilled to provide innovating solutions to the German market with Inverto Digital Labs”, said Joel Reboul, Chief Executive Officer at Pleyo.
