NXP’s DVB-T silicon tuner and channel decoder enable high-quality terrestrial TV reception

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands — NXP Semiconductors today announced that Panasonic has selected NXP’s industry leading DVB-T silicon tuners for terrestrial broadcasting reception in its high-end Blu-ray disc recorders. Panasonic Blu-ray recorders take advantage of the tuner’s ability to deliver high-quality digital TV reception in one small solution.

The newly introduced Panasonic Blu-ray disc recorders, DMR-BW770EF/BW870EF, enable users in France to record HD content from television and transfer it straight to Blu-ray.

“NXP is committed to delivering system-optimized silicon tuners that are best-in-class solutions for our customers,” said Guy Ducos, general manager, front-end and media interfaces business line, NXP Semiconductors. “As the market leader in silicon tuners with long-term experience in RF technologies, we offer innovations in chip architecture, power efficiency and price / performance. We are pleased to work with Panasonic and will continue to provide high-performance, integrated tuners to the market.”

NXP provides a wide range of highly integrated silicon tuners covering all digital standards for home entertainment, TV and set-top boxes (STBs). The TDA18211 HD tuner selected by Panasonic is a digital terrestrial silicon tuner for digital STBs with easy on-board and multi-tuner configurations. Dedicated to the European terrestrial standard DVB-T, the tuner reduces overall system cost and cuts design cycles, enabling faster time-to-market while meeting the market’s demanding performance and application requirements.
