Indonusa Telemedia Offers Superior Picture Quality for DTH MPEG-2 Service Using DiviCom® Electra™ Encoders and ProStream™ 1000 Stream Processing System

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that PT Indonusa Telemedia has implemented Harmonic’s DiviCom® Electra™ 1000 multi-channel MPEG-2 standard definition (SD) encoders for its Telkom Vision direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service in Indonesia. The solution deployed by Indonusa Telemedia also includes the ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform with ProCipher™ scrambling technology used for both multiplexing and encryption, as well as NMX Digital Service Manager™ for end-to-end monitoring and control of the video service. With this deployment, Harmonic continues to expand its market position and leadership in delivering IP-based digital video solutions to service providers in the Asia Pacific region.

When planning its DTH service upgrade, Indonusa Telemedia was looking for a video headend infrastructure that would support the operator’s ability to offer consumers an affordable and high quality service that can be easily expanded over time. Indonusa Telemedia is a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia Group, the nation’s largest telecom operator offering voice, data and video triple play services.

“Our goal is to be at the forefront of a new era in pay TV in Indonesia,” said Rahadi Arsyad, President Director/CEO for PT Indonusa Telemedia. “Harmonic’s high density and superior quality Electra MPEG-2 encoders enabled us to maximize the number of channels per transponder for the Telkom Vision DTH service. As a highly respected leader in video solutions, Harmonic brings experience and the best compression solutions in the industry, meeting our needs for reliability, scalability and performance.”

“Harmonic is focused on developing optimal solutions for high definition and standard definition video delivery and continues to lead the way in compression enhancements for both MPEG-4 AVC and MPEG-2 formats,” said Raymond Tse, Vice President of Asia Pacific Sales for Harmonic Inc. “The IP-based digital video headend implemented by PT Indonusa Telemedia for the Telkom Vision service not only allows them to increase channel capacity with the low bit-rate Electra 1000 encoders, but also provides a flexible platform that can be easily expanded as the service grows.”

Harmonic’s Electra product line also includes market-leading MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) compression platforms–the Electra 7000 HD encoder and Electra 5400 SD encoder. These multi-service systems deliver superior picture quality for up to four full resolution channels with simultaneous low resolution output for applications such as picture-in-picture or multi-channel mosaics in a compact 1-RU form factor. Harmonic’s digital video solutions are today deployed by the world’s leading cable, satellite, telco and terrestrial service providers to power their broadcast and on-demand video services.
