TELUS launches Microsoft Mediaroom in Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary

TELUS (TSX: T, T.A; NYSE: TU) today announced the availability of a new TELUS TV service, powered by Microsoft Mediaroom and available exclusively from TELUS in Western Canada, which offers a dramatically better television viewing experience for TELUS TV customers.

TELUS TV’s next generation service provides clients the opportunity to enjoy a single Personal Video Recorder (PVR) solution for the whole home. Clients will be impressed with new features like:

  • PVR Anywhere, which enables users to record a show, or an entire series, on any connected television and watch it on any other connected television in any room in the house
  • 1 PVR is all the client needs – they record and play back shows on any TV in their home with a digital box
  • Record up to three shows simultaneously from any room – they never need to miss a show again
  • Pause a recorded program in one room and pick it up from the same spot in a different room
  • Enjoy the most recording capacity available with 115 hours of High Definition (HD) or 295 hours of Standard Definition programming
  • Connect TELUS TV on up to six TVs in a home, with multiple HD streams
  • Surf channels faster than old analog or digital cable-TV service with Instant Channel Change
  • Enjoy improved search capability – search actors, directors, show titles or a favourite sporting event for immediate viewing or recording for future viewing
  • Access HD programming on all televisions with a digital box
  • Enjoy enhanced channel browsing with picture in picture surfing
  • Set series recordings for all favourite programs and let TELUS TV conveniently organize and manage them.

Microsoft Mediaroom is an award-winning television software and services platform powering a new generation of TV services that connect users to the TV they love and gives them more control.

TELUS TV offers savings to clients who are bundled with home phone or Internet service. As an additional bonus, TELUS High Speed clients will experience speeds twice as fast as the regular High Speed service, with speeds up to 15 Megabits per second, when they combine this service with TELUS TV.

The new service will be available from today and will be expanded over time. Existing TELUS TV clients will have the opportunity to upgrade over the coming months.

TELUS TV offers over 400 channels, including over 40 in HD, HD Video On Demand and HD Pay Per View, so you can order movies and live events from the comfort of your home. TELUS TV also offers time shifting providing more opportunities to catch your favourite programs outside your local time zone.
