New offerings to help service providers expand and deepen their relationships with subscribers in a world of connected devices

PARIS — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today unveiled a set of solutions designed to enable service providers to introduce a wide array of new service offerings and deepen their connection with their subscribers by making it easier for people to access all of their services and content wherever they are, on any screen. Alcatel-Lucent’s Multimedia Solutions, available today, unify the delivery of video, TV, and multimedia content to any connected device, be it a TV, PC or mobile phone. These solutions support a comprehensive multimedia strategy focused on the delivery of a wide array of services — such as live TV, video on demand (VoD), and network video recording for later viewing – to subscribers in any location.

Alcatel-Lucent’s multimedia strategy enables seamless connections between the various multimedia delivery systems available today, allowing service providers to dramatically reduce the time, complexity and cost inherent in creating services for the various screens it supports. This will help service providers stimulate video consumption and revenue from increased digital content transactions, and, for multimedia/video content providers, they can work with the service provider as a partner to deliver content to end-users.

Today Alcatel-Lucent is introducing:

  • The Multi-screen Video Solution, which ties together existing networks, allowing service providers extend their fixed IPTV or CableTV service to smartphones, PCs, tablets and a host of connected devices
  • The Multi-screen Foundation, which helps service providers consolidate media operations to create an open foundation for a broad set of targeted multimedia solutions, such as Multi-Screen Video
  • The Velocix Digital Media Delivery Platform, which consists of a series of appliances that service providers can deploy to support their own dedicated advanced digital media delivery capability, as an alternative to relying on shared content delivering networks, helping improve quality and reduce cost.

Alcatel-Lucent also has expanded its Multi-screen Professional Services offerings, which will now support service providers end-to-end deployment needs for multi-screen services. Leveraging Alcatel-Lucent’s extensive experience in IPTV, mobile networks and video applications deployments for new multi-screen services, the company’s multimedia consultancy and integration services team helps service providers customize the multimedia experience for each customer’s unique environment.

Alcatel-Lucent’s multimedia strategy is intended to foster mutually beneficial relationships between service providers, content providers and consumers. The strategy supports Alcatel-Lucent’s application enablement vision, which is focused on combining the trusted capabilities of service providers with the speed and innovation of the Web to provide both consumers and business users with richer experiences.

“Alcatel-Lucent’s Multimedia Solutions and strategy help service providers leverage their existing assets in creative ways to introduce an entirely new set of services and associated revenue – a great example of our application enablement vision in action. These solutions build on our strengths in IPTV, mobility and content delivery to bring our customers – and their subscribers – a consistent multimedia experience on every screen,” said Kenneth Frank, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s Solutions and Marketing activities. “We are creating new opportunities for everyone in the digital media value chain by providing a foundation on which new multimedia services and content can be offered to consumers quickly and easily, based on market demand.”

To realize Alcatel-Lucent’s broad multimedia delivery vision, the company is working with select third parties that can deliver best-in-class elements that deliver some critical capabilities needed to deliver a successful multi-screen service offering for the mass market. Today Alcatel-Lucent also announced strategic relationships with Harmonic and Isilon® Systems, each of which offers unique products that combine superior quality and technical leadership. Harmonic is the industry leader in multi-screen video delivery solutions to the TV, PC and mobile devices, with content ingest, transformation and delivery solutions powering mobile video services for numerous leading telco, satellite and cable operators around the world. Isilon provides market-leading scale-out Network-Attached Storage (NAS) solutions that drive unique business value by maximizing the performance of mission-critical applications, workflows and processes.
