DCS, an existing Harmonic customer, is located in Bucharest and launched the new 80-channel AKTA TV digital service in March 2010.

“Harmonic’s advanced digital video delivery solutions allow us to provide high quality triple-play services to subscribers throughout Romania, particularly improving the service available in rural areas,” said Dinu Malacopol, CEO of Digital Cable Systems. “With this upgrade, we have invested in a state-of-the-art, fully integrated IP-based infrastructure that can seamlessly and cost-effectively help us realize the ambitious goals we set for this new digital cable service.”

“Harmonic’s scalable IP-based digital video delivery solutions allow DCS to easily expand the service as new regional headends are deployed throughout Romania, by simply adding new edge sites,” said Gil Katz, Senior Director of Cable Solutions for Harmonic Inc. “With the new AKTA TV digital service, DCS has transformed its cable service offering. Harmonic’s solution set provides DCS with greater flexibility, outstanding value, and a seamless upgrade path to continued, best-in-class service delivery.”

Cellphone, an authorized Harmonic reseller in Romania, was a key member of this project and provided additional technology integration and customer support services.

Harmonic’s award-winning video stream processing, edge and HFC access systems are deployed by cable operators around the world to power their digital TV services.
