Innovative Pay-TV Operator in Chile Leverages Software-based Revenue Security to Enable New Advanced TV Services

SAN DIEGO and SANTIAGO — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, and I-Systems, a respected systems integrator located in Santiago de Chile, announced Gtd Manquehue as the latest service operator to deploy an integrated platform to secure broadcast and video-on-demand (VOD) channels on its DVB-C/IPTV based hybrid network. The Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for DVB hybrid solution fully leverages the strengths of the I-Systems digital TV platform, which includes middleware and VOD servers from GoBackTV and hybrid set-top boxes (STBs) from Xavi.

GTD Manquehue, a subsidiary of the Gtd Group serving the Santiago district of Vitacura, Las Condes and others, has been rolling out new advanced broadband services on its FTTH network, the first of its kind deployed in Chile. The digital TV service offers high definition channels at a competitive subscription rate on its DVB-C network and incorporates an IP return channel for key management, VOD and interactivity.

“We conducted an extensive evaluation of the solution from I-Systems and Verimatrix and were very pleased with the platform’s capabilities to deliver and secure high-quality broadcast content along with an expanding range of interactive services,” said Fernando Gana, general manager, Gtd Imagen, the pay television business unit of Gtd Group. “We can’t say enough about their excellent customer service, which has supported our aggressive rollout schedule and helped us maintain our position and recognition in the country.”

The Latin American pay-TV market is progressing rapidly, with operators increasingly taking advantage of IP-based networks in combination with DVB standards-based broadcasting. The two-way nature of hybrid networks means that operators can offer advanced, interactive services and program guides, providing a significantly better and more competitive user experience than traditional one-way networks.

Gtd is implementing a cap-and-grow strategy by adding VCAS via DVB Simulcrypt for the new advanced services, using hybrid STBs, while capping the installed base of older STBs supported by a legacy CA system. This allows for a smooth migration without service or revenue disruption.

“GTD is certainly an innovative operator that is developing advanced hybrid networks to deliver premium content to the residences in Chile,” said Felipe Larrain, project manager, I-Systems. “We have received a tremendous response to our integrated solution with Verimatrix because it enables operators to leverage their existing technology investments while positioning themselves for future growth.”

“We expect Latin America to be a significant growth area for us as we are seeing many progressive service providers taking advantage of advanced, cost-effective technology. I-Systems is clearly a valuable partner for us in this region,” Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix. “We are very proud to have earned the trust of Gtd as the latest DVB hybrid network customer to deploy our proven VCAS for DVB solution.”
