ViXS’ XCode® 4210 processors deliver unprecedented system integration and performance

TORONTO — ViXS Systems Inc., a leading provider of smart network multimedia processors, announced today that its XCode® 4210 multimedia processor has been chosen by Haier Software Co., Ltd. for its next generation hybrid set-top boxes.

“Today’s announcement is very gratifying for everyone at ViXS,” said Sally Daub, President and CEO of ViXS Systems Inc. “In just over one year, the XCode® 4210 has gone from launch to being a market leader for OEMs looking for comprehensive multiprocessor solutions. We look forward to a great relationship with Haier in helping them provide even more compelling set-top box offerings to consumers.”

Haier’s hybrid set-top box receives linear video through the cable network, and over-the-top, or internet video services through an internet connection. Haier’s plans for this entertainment platform aims to take advantage of high processing performance, full Web browsing experience, and a rich 3D graphic user experience from the XCode® 4210.

The choice of the XCode® 4210 allows Haier to develop a truly revolutionary set-top box that embraces many of the changing consumer viewing habits. These include the ability to receive and view content from multiple sources and stream this video to a number of connected consumer devices. In addition to 3D graphics user interfaces, full HD 3D TV and web browsing, Haier’s new design with XCode® 4210 also allows concurrent operations such as streaming to other devices in the home including PCs, smart phones, iPads and many more as a result of the advanced video transcoding capabilities embedded in XCode® 4210. By running an Android™ platform, Haier’s set-top boxes will provide consumers with access to a wide range of applications available in association with Android™.

All of these innovations are enabled by the Xtensiv™ software package that deliver a truly robust set of software applications that seamlessly handle broadcast and internet video, DLNA®, transcryption between CA and DRMs, as well as transcoding and streaming of multiple video/audio streams concurrently.

The XCode® 4210 is the only system-on-chip today that is in production that boasts the following set of advanced hardware and software features:
