All set to deliver customized Over-The-Top TV solutions

LONDON — IP&TV World Forum — Comtrend Corporation today announced that uptake of its IPTV set top box products has continued to be high following last year’s deals with Mediabox and Telefónica Group. Globally, broadband operators are looking to add Over-The-Top (OTT) services to their product set to increase revenues and customer loyalty, Comtrend is uniquely positioned to capitalise on this increasingly mature market.

Harold Fitch, General Manager Comtrend Europe & South-America, said, “The IPTV market continues to develop, as do our customers’ requirements. It is now becoming an imperative for providers to include the option of OTT services direct to consumers TV screens”.

Whilst standardisation of the services available continues, there is already a large amount of OTT content that can be delivered direct to TV screens. Comtrend UK can demonstrate solutions delivering BBC iPlayer, Love Film, Blinkbox, YouTube and more.

According to Fitch, “Operators rarely have the luxury of waiting for the agreement of standards and need suppliers who have the flexibility and expertise to anticipate changes in the market, as well as building to the standards that often follow. Comtrend is committed to adopting a standards based approach, where it exists, and working collaboratively with key technology partners. We have already demonstrated this commitment in our work with Telefonica”.

Using Comtrend’s STB-7007 product set, Telefónica Group launched movie rental services to customers with broadband access across several countries in the final quarter of 2010. In Spain, Movistar has launched Videoclub de Movistar, a service offering the best movies, series, documentaries and concerts, in standard-definition to all customers and in high-definition to customers with 10 Mbps broadband. In Argentina, Telefónica has launched the On Video service, the first online video service in the country and one of the first online movie rental services in Latin America.

The STB-7007 will be on demonstration at the IP&TV World Forum 2011 hosted at London Olympia from 22nd to 24th March. Comtrend will be on stand number 237.
