  • Broadcom is first silicon vendor to integrate the latest generation of NAGRA-On-Chip Security (NOCS 3)
  • NAGRA-certified chipsets enable a true multi CA/DRM environment on multimedia platforms
  • Additional hardware capabilities in the chipset enable new business models for DTV service providers, while simplifying the platform maintenance and evolution in the field

CHESEAUX, Switzerland — NAGRA, a Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) company and the world’s leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, announced today that Broadcom (NASDAQ: BRCM) will embed the latest generation of NAGRA-On-Chip Security (NOCS 3) onto Broadcom’s full range of 40nm set-top box chipsets. Broadcom’s NOCS-certified chipsets are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2012.

“The integration of NAGRA’s latest security technology onto our range of chipsets will allow service providers to deploy secure devices and services to their subscribers while leveraging the multiscreen environment,” said Dan Marotta, EVP Broadband Communications Group, Broadcom. “NAGRA has been very proactive in building on and improving existing security features and we are thrilled to be the first silicon manufacturer to integrate it.”

“This latest evolution of our NOCS technology brings the most robust “hardware root of trust” in the device, allowing us and our partners to maintain device integrity and, as a result, help service providers protect and grow their business.” said Ivan Verbesselt, SVP of Marketing, NAGRA. “NOCS 3 brings content security to the next level by enabling a true multi-CA/DRM environment – this means our customers will be able to use third party DRM or CA systems alongside NAGRA Media Access and PRM on their device without compromising NAGRA security.”

NOCS technology is an essential element of NAGRA’s content protection solutions. It provides a highly-secure hardware toolbox integrated within the digital chipset, allowing service providers to monetize their services and protect their business models.. More than just a security technology, NOCS is a cross-chipset security certification and key management system that ensures a consistent quality of implementation for chipset security features, protecting a service provider’s investment in consumer devices. NOCS 3 moves some security constraints from the device to the chipset reducing the device’s time-to-market and simplifying the maintenance and evolution of the devices in the field. What’s more, NOCS 3 includes features that enable a fast and secure resume-from-standby, limiting power consumption and meeting new environmental standards. Combined with NAGRA products, NOCS brings the full breadth of security “into the device, on the device and out of the device.”

More than 80 million secure MPEG Chipsets embedding NOCS have been produced worldwide since 2003.
