ViXS and SMI Collaborate with Verimatrix to Demonstrate New Breed of Embedded SoC Security Solutions to Protect Video Revenue Streams

LAS VEGAS — 2012 International CES — Through a close partner collaboration, Cryptography Research, a division of Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS), SypherMedia International (SMI), ViXS Systems and Verimatrix will be demonstrating a cardless security solution that protects video for digital TV systems. Visitors can schedule an appointment to view the system at a hospitality suite in the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino during CES in Las Vegas.

The cardless security solution builds on the innovation these companies have developed to leverage Cryptography Research’s CryptoFirewall™ security core technology. The CryptoFirewall solution is a dedicated hardware security core integrated directly on set top box SoCs. It provides a secure hardware foundation to prevent signal theft. ViXS Systems was the first silicon vendor to implement the CryptoFirewall core with the SypherMedia International (SMI) Kernel security code on its XC4210 SoC. The solution being shown at CES illustrates how the enhanced security architecture performs in conjunction with Verimatrix’s advanced conditional access platform.

“It is exciting to see how Verimatrix, ViXS, and SMI have been able to integrate and leverage our CryptoFirewall hardware security core technology in a short period of time,” said Paul Kocher, president and chief scientist at Cryptography Research. “This solution has the potential to change the way digital TV operators and consumer electronics manufacturers think about security.”

“SMI has brought these separate technology pieces together to address the needs of the digital video industry for a simple-to-deploy, cost-effective, and extremely robust solution for video security,” said Dennis Flaharty, president of SMI, a leader in providing independent third party programming of chip secrets in SoCs and hardware intellectual property protection.

“We are excited to extend our leadership position in delivering advanced security transcoding network multimedia SoCs to the digital TV market, and to enable the delivery of secure video to a wider range of devices from multiple sources to the TV,” said Sally Daub, president and CEO of ViXS, a leading provider of smart network multimedia processors.

“Support for Cryptography Research’s technologies reinforces Verimatrix’s full range of revenue security solutions. We are pleased to highlight the integration efforts with key ecosystem partners including ViXS and SMI,” added Petr Peterka, CTO at Verimatrix. “The CryptoFirewall core complements and extends our layered approach to the implementations of advanced cardless security solutions, as well as the evolution of our response to the major commercial concerns of content piracy and theft of service for our operator customers.”
