TVPlayer – The Evolution of TV is Here

Streaming solutions provider SimpleStream has announced at the IPTV World Forum that it is to launch it’s own OTT consumer television platform called TVPlayer in Q2 2012. A member of the Digital TV Group, SimpleStream has quickly established itself as a service provider for broadcasters and content owners, helping them develop their own OTT solutions in the UK market. Having recently secured additional rounds of investment, SimpleStream will use its proprietary OTT technologies and CDN infrastructure to launch TVPlayer initially in the UK this summer with ambitious plans to move into Europe and beyond in Q1 2013.

TVPlayer will offer premium UK channels across multiple devices giving the end user total control and choice over how, when and where they view their TV. The rich EPG that has been developed in house, will enable the user to scroll backwards and catchup on content they have may have missed in the last 7 days, offering similar functionality to that of TiVo and YouView without the need for a set top box. The final channel line up will be announced in due course and those interested can sign up for the beta test by registering at tvplayer.com.

Dan Finch, Commercial Director of SimpleStream commented:
“Despite media speculation that video on demand is where we are all heading, linear TV still dominates TV consumption with more people watching more linear TV than ever before. Consumers still like to be guided what to watch either via an EPG or a recommendations engine — that is at the heart of TVPlayer. The proliferation of viewing across multiple devices is a clear demonstration of the public demand to consume TV in a different way. As well as some fantastic content at a competitive price point, the ability to navigate via an enriched EPG will be the key to the success of TVPlayer.”
