Leading Chilean Telco Selects VCAS to Protect First IPTV Deployment

LAS VEGAS, NV — NAB Show, Booth #SU5802 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that Telefónica del Sur (Telsur), part of the Chilean Grupo Gtd telecommunications group (GTD), has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority (VCAS™) 3 solution to secure its IPTV service. Telsur selected VCAS™ for IPTV as a replacement for its existing conditional access system (CAS) in order to achieve higher performance, scalability and a wider choice of ecosystem partners. As the global number one in IPTV content protection, VCAS enables the secure delivery of linear TV broadcast and on-demand video services, and offers a solid upgrade platform that Telsur can use to cost-effectively enhance its competitive advantage.

“Our previous CA provider was not able to sufficiently support our growth plan so we chose to invest in Verimatrix as a means of future-proofing our technology,” said Fernando Gana Barroilhet, general manager, GTD Imagen S.A. “We value the VCAS ability to easily scale and support our emerging business initiatives. Since implementing the Verimatrix solution, we have experienced a steep growth in our subscriber base and revenues, which undoubtedly is influenced by the higher performance and scalability of VCAS for IPTV.”

VCAS for IPTV is integrated with Minerva’s iTVManager, which provides a comprehensive middleware and service delivery platform for management of compelling video services over broadband networks, including high-definition (HDTV), pay-per-view (PPV), video-on-demand (VOD), and digital video recording (DVR). The integrated solution is installed on set-top boxes made by Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC), Amino, a leading IPTV STB manufacturer, and Xavi, developer of the first hybrid IPTV/DVB-C STBs in Latin America.

“This deployment is particularly noteworthy because it not only reinforces our market leadership position in Chile, but also underscores the importance of selecting a flexible and scalable security solution such as VCAS to support both immediate and emerging digital TV security needs,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer. “We are delighted to be working with Telsur and GTD and look forward to supporting their growth.”

VCAS for IPTV is a fully integrated component of the umbrella VCAS 3 architecture, which enables secure video delivery across a broad range of networks and device types. VCAS 3 shifts the value proposition beyond content protection, towards the broader perspective of revenue security. Digital TV operators are able to address new opportunities in the accelerating convergence of video delivery over various types of networks to a multitude of devices. VCAS for IPTV offers flexibility in choice of client devices, broad middleware interoperability and proven scalability. For six straight years, Verimatrix has been ranked number one globally in IPTV content protection and DRM by market research firm Multimedia Research Group, Inc. (MRG).

Verimatrix will be presenting several demonstrations of multi-network security at its booth (#SU5802) during the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 16-19, including a flexible DVB hybrid solution and a powerful combination of Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming, HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), and the Verimatrix Video Content Authority Solution (VCAS™) 3 security architecture.
