Integrated solution to be offered to North American cable operators

SUWANEE, Ga. — ARRIS Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) and NDS Group today announced their collaboration on a tightly-integrated solution that will offer service providers greater choice and customization in the way they deliver seamless whole home triple-play media experiences to their subscribers. The joint integration will provide a comprehensive architecture to accelerate the pace of innovation and the convergence of traditional pay-TV with Interactive IP Multi-Media Services.

The integration of the ARRIS Media Gateway and Media Player with NDS’ MediaHighway® middleware, VideoGuard Connect™ DRM and the NDS Snowflake™ user interface is being architected in close collaboration with several North American cable operators. NDS is the first 3rd party supplier to integrate its software with the ARRIS Media Gateway and Media Players.

The ARRIS Media Gateway is a hybrid QAM/IP platform with a six-tuner HD DVR and 500 Gigabytes of storage. It also includes DOCSIS® 3.0 high speed data and voice, a four-port Ethernet home networking router, CableCARD conditional access, plus support for Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA®) 1.1+ home networking technology and an option for 802.11n Wi-Fi®. It can connect with the ARRIS Media Player, a thin client device, and with other subscriber-owned DLNA®-enabled devices using DTCP-IP encryption across a home network.

NDS’ next-generation middleware, MediaHighway offers subscribers flexible viewing with the NDS Snowflake user interface, providing intuitive navigation of content and services, including NDS XTV™ digital video recorder (DVR) functionality that enables time shifted viewing such as pause, rewind, fast-forward and playback. The joint integration also incorporates Jungo Panorama™ remote management technology, which enables better and faster fault discovery, analysis and resolution and Jungo OpenRG™ residential gateway software. It includes the NDS Unified Headend™, including VideoGuard Connect, the DRM for multi-platform pay-TV, which enables NDS customers to securely and seamlessly deliver premium pay-TV content to multiple devices inside and outside the home.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with NDS and expand the market reach of the ARRIS Media Gateway,” said Bruce McClelland, ARRIS Group President, Products and Services. “Working together demonstrates our companies’ flexibility and commitment to using innovative approaches to deliver cable’s long-awaited whole home solution.”

“Today’s marketplace demands that cable operators deliver the most robust content package in an elegant and exciting user experience,” said Jesper Knutsson, NDS VP and General Manager Sales, NDS Americas. “The NDS and ARRIS software and hardware components of this joint solution come together behind the award-winning NDS Snowflake user interface to deliver seamless and mesmerizing whole home experiences for our customers’ subscribers.”
