Key Milestone for MHL Technology Achieved Over 18-Month Period

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Silicon Image (NASDAQ:SIMG), a leading provider of wireless and wired HD connectivity solutions, today announced that it has shipped over 100 million MHL® (Mobile High-Definition Link) products to top-tier mobile manufacturers worldwide to date. The rapid market adoption of MHL technology highlights that the MHL standard is rapidly becoming the de facto HD connectivity solution for the delivery of a seamless and interactive user experience when connecting a mobile device to a larger screen display.

Device manufacturers and consumers alike understand MHL’s value proposition, which is demonstrated by the wide range of products available in the fast growing MHL ecosystem, not only from Silicon Image, but also from top brands in the mobile, display, PC, home theater, and accessory markets.

“Shipping over 100 million MHL-enabled mobile products since the beginning of 2011 is a major milestone for Silicon Image and the industry,” said Tim Vehling, vice president of product marketing at Silicon Image, Inc. “With our latest low-power mobile products that support 1080p60 and the latest MHL 2.0 specification, Silicon Image continues to lead and grow the market in connecting advanced smartphones to larger screen DTVs and displays.”

MHL technology delivers 1080p 60Hz uncompressed video with up to eight channels of digital audio while charging the mobile device–enabling consumers to enhance their mobile experience by displaying content including HD videos, photos, apps and games on the big screen. Key MHL features include:

  • Support for 1080p 60Hz full HD video, including 2D and 3D formats
  • The use of established connectors for mobile and CE products, such as micro USB and HDMI, which saves manufacturers the cost of incorporating additional connectors
  • Faster charging of the latest smartphones and tablets when connected to MHL-enabled DTVs or monitors
  • Control of the mobile device using the DTV’s remote control

Silicon Image offers a broad portfolio of production-proven MHL semiconductor and IP solutions for mobile, DTV and home theater applications.
