Leading Consumer Electronics Innovator Integrates ViewRight Security on Advanced Line of Smart TVs

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — IBC 2012 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced it will enhance Samsung Electronics’ world-leading Smart TVs with advanced ViewRight® security software to support premium IP and over-the-top (OTT) video services. Video service apps that pay-TV operators build for Samsung Smart TVs will now be able to take advantage of ViewRight client security.

Samsung Smart TVs and the first compatible apps for Verimatrix protected services will be featured in the TeliaSonera connected TV solution rollout that will debut in certain markets later this year. The integrated solution will be demonstrated at IBC 2012, RAI Amsterdam, 7-11 September 2012 at the Verimatrix booth (#4.B54).

“VCAS for Internet TV offers a combination of standards-based delivery support and robust security. Integrating VCAS on our Smart TVs helps us provide our consumers with the seamless quality of experience (QoE) that they demand,” stated Duke M. Hur, VP of S/W Platform, Samsung Electronics.

The Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS™) for Internet TV, together with ViewRight-enabled client devices, provides a complete digital TV security solution for IP video services that uses the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) adaptive streaming delivery standard. As operators work on upgrades to their network architectures, IP-enabled services are an important aspect of the enhanced value that can be created, both to reach additional screens of their current subscribers and to extend their service umbrella more broadly. When it is possible to target connected TVs and other consumer electronic devices with existing IP-based services, such an upgrade becomes extremely compelling.

“The demand for Smart TVs is growing exponentially, and increasingly they are the key components of new multi-screen video services for pay-TV operators that must meet stringent security requirements. Verimatrix has partnered with Samsung to expand the range of devices compatible with these new secure premium services, while also helping operators extend their service reach using IPTV and OTT delivery,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix.

The VCAS platform, which addresses the new video marketplace with a complete, proactive revenue security approach for DVB broadcast, hybrid, and IPTV networks, incorporates VCAS for Internet TV to meet the demand for standards-based security for linear and on-demand Internet TV delivery. Whatever network transition challenges are awaiting service operators, the VCAS architecture can help unify rights management for consumers, optimize operational costs and help expand service offerings.
