Number One TV Brand in China to Adopt Advanced Adaptive Streaming Format

BERLIN — IFA – Driving digital entertainment innovation, Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) and Hisense (600060.SH) , a world leading CE manufacturer, today announced they are collaborating to integrate DivX Plus Streaming™ into a new range of Hisense Smart TVs. The latest agreement continues the momentum for the advanced adaptive streaming format, which has quickly gained the support of major studios, IC manufacturers, device makers, and retailers since being unveiled last year. Rovi will be demonstrating DivX Plus Streaming at IFA 2012, August 31 to September 5 (Hall 25, Stand 146) in Berlin.

“Hisense is constantly looking for ways to innovate and improve our product lines,” said Chuansheng Zhang, Product Director, Hisense. “Bringing new features to over-the-top entertainment and helping virtually eliminate playback problems or interruptions, DivX Plus Streaming supports this mandate and will be a welcome addition to our Smart TVs.”

DivX Plus Streaming brings a robust, cutting-edge feature set to streaming media that is typically characteristic of the Blu-ray Disc consumer experience. By dynamically adjusting video streams and delivering maximum visual quality based on available bandwidth, DivX Plus Streaming virtually eliminates skipping, pauses, and buffering during video playback. The solution supports 1080p high definition, subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play features such as smooth fast forward and rewind, quick-start playback, and resume playback across devices. DivX Plus Streaming expands the value of the already popular DivX Plus® HD Certification program, which brings these same advanced multimedia features to ‘download to own’ video content.

“As the number one TV brand in China, Hisense will help us quickly build a large footprint of devices that support our DivX Plus Streaming technology in the region,” said Matt Milne, EVP worldwide sales and marketing, Rovi Corporation. “Simultaneously, we are continuing to work with content owners and distributors in China to enable over-the-top storefronts that will provide convenient access to premium movies and TV entertainment in our advanced streaming format.”
