Rapid Adoption of Hybrid Networks and Multi-Device Services Creates Opportunity for Advanced User Interfaces and Unified Rights Management

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — IBC 2012 — TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), a leader in the advanced television entertainment market, and Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced a partnership that will enable operators around the world to provide a fully integrated video experience for their subscribers while protecting revenue streams through the security features of Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™). The combination of TiVo technology and VCAS software-based security will provide a seamless and safe content choice for video consumption through advanced hybrid set-top boxes (STBs) that utilize TiVo’s user interface and through TiVo’s tablet, smartphone, and browser-based experiences.

Operators around the globe are increasingly partnering with TiVo to deploy an advanced hybrid television solution throughout the home and across all screens that seamlessly integrates linear channels with operator video on demand, recorded content and broadband or so called over-the-top (OTT) video into a single, easy-to use and navigate user experience. “TiVo Everywhere” as it’s called provides the TiVo user experience to subscribers across virtually all screens including mobile devices (tablets and smartphones) as well as through their TiVo PVR. This TiVo ecosystem, in which each screen is anchored to the full look and feel of TiVo, enables smarter television viewing with effortless navigation through all digital entertainment content including linear TV, VOD, PPV and OTT/play services.

An important layer of this experience is ensuring that the operator’s content is secure as it is ported and consumed across devices. This is where Verimatrix VCAS solutions excels and provides a complete security infrastructure for advanced multi-network pay-TV services running the TiVo user interface.

Joshua Danovitz, VP & General Manager, International, TiVo Inc., stated, “We are extremely excited to work with Verimatrix to help expand the TiVo experience to hybrid and IPTV operators around the world that need advanced multi-network security in order to adopt our solution. The reputation of Verimatrix as a trusted security provider makes them a perfect match for TiVo, which prides itself on delivering the ultimate combination of traditional and next-generation television to operators in a quick and collaborative nature.”

“The competitive challenges faced by operators demand the deployment of multi-network, multi-screen services. Providing an integrated experience across these touch points demands a sophisticated combination of user interface, metadata and security technologies,” said Tom Munro, CEO, Verimatrix. “We feel that a TiVo and Verimatrix partnership provides a compelling combination of strengths to optimize quality, functionality and the consumer experience.”
