CANAL DIGITAL and KAONMEDIA unveil Home Gateway at IBC 2012

NORWAY and SOUTH KOREA — At IBC 2012 in Amsterdam, CANAL DIGITAL, the leading DTH Pay-TV Provider in the Nordics, and KAONMEDIA CO., LTD, a leading provider of digital set-top-boxes, are very proud to jointly announce that they will launch Home Gateway Solution targeting the second half of 2013.

CANAL DIGITAL, the leading DTH pay-TV provider in the Nordics, is to launch its next generation TV platform based on KAONMEDIA Home-Gateway HW solutions. The new Hybrid service, combining satellite with OTT delivery, will enable CANAL DIGITAL subscribers to access content multiscreen – on multiple devices – inside and outside the home. According to KAONMEDIA, the Home-Gateway platforms come with Conditional Access System embedded and fully integrated with the MW end-to-end solution selected by CANAL DIGITAL. KAONMEDIA is known for strong performance in consumer tests.

Recently, Canal Digital announced that it has performed a preliminary and high-level end-to-end system design for a next generation hybrid DTH, IPTV (OTT) and converged services system, known as ‘3G TV”›, for Canal Digital with NDS Group. This is the first time for both parties to perform a joint project to provide multiscreen experience to end users and the project is scheduled to commercially launch in the second half of 2013. Conax will be the provider of encryption on the new TV platform.
