AMSTERDAM — Broadband World Forum 2012 — Celeno Communications, a leading provider of high-performance Wi-Fi chips and software for HD multimedia and high-performance data home networking applications, and ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”)[0763.HK/000063.SZ], a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced a partnership to develop a range of wireless products that address IPTV service providers’ growing need for carrier-grade Wi-Fi solutions.
As part of the announcement, Celeno’s Wi-Fi chips will power ZTE’s home gateway products. Celeno’s chips, which are based on the company’s OptimizAIR™ technology, will enable ZTE to offer whole home Wi-Fi networking robust enough for HD IPTV distribution, multi-room DVR and over-the-top (OTT) video consumption on tablets anywhere in a home. Celeno’s chips will also be leveraged to power after-market accessories such as video bridges and USB dongles that will allow service providers to Wi-Fi-enable legacy set-top boxes and gateways.
“With Celeno’s field-proven Wi-Fi technology and Wi-Fi chip portfolio, we will be able to offer our telco customers top performance at the right cost levels,” said Mr. Xu Ziyang, CTO of ZTE Europe & North America. “Our customers are looking for video-grade Wi-Fi to better serve subscribers’ hunger for video and multimedia consumption in the home on various portable devices and wireless displays.”
“ZTE will benefit from a rich portfolio of video-grade Wi-Fi products that support a variety of architectures and have a strong roadmap towards 802.11ac,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno. “This partnership underscores our continuous commitment to evolving our roadmap and technology to meet the stringent requirements of broadband service providers across Europe in a range of applications.”
ZTE’s new wireless products will be available in the fourth quarter of 2012.
