VCAS for IPTV Chosen for Scalable & Flexible Wholesale/Retail Business Model Support; Showcased in RealPage’s Unique Demonstration Labs

LAS VEGAS, NV — 2008 International CES, Booth #73014 — Verimatrix, setting the standard in content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks, today announced that RealPage Inc., a leading provider of products and services to the multifamily industry, has selected the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for IPTV to secure content on StarFire™, RealPage’s new IPTV service designed specifically for the multifamily housing industry. VCAS will secure content delivered from the StarFire headend to apartment homes via RealPage’s private, managed IP network.

VCAS has been integrated within RealPage’s “Leasing Office of the Future” and Simulation Labs where property owners and managers can experience every aspect of its innovative IPTV service — from service sign up to the branded resident portal and interactive program guide. StarFire IPTV leverages the latest generation VCAS architecture, which supports an entire spectrum of wholesale/retail IPTV configurations. In particular, RealPage has integrated Verimatrix’s Remote Stream Manager (RSM) that enables seamless end-to-end encryption of centrally broadcast channels combined with secure locally originated content. This architecture eliminates the need for additional costly equipment to be purchased, operated and maintained by the local IPTV retailers.

“Verimatrix proved to have the most scalable content security solution for our IPTV delivery model, as well as a successful track record working with our other system partners,” said Steve Winn, RealPage CEO. “Beyond the technology, Verimatrix has also provided valuable consultation to help us understand and address the security requirements of premium content owners. It is clear that we must have an advanced security solution to thrive in this business.”

VCAS for IPTV is a software-based content security solution built on the principles of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and X.509 digital certificates. The RealPage Simulation Labs currently showcase a production-ready StarFire ecosystem in which VCAS is integrated with Espial’s flagship Evo IPTV middleware, and Motorola’s VIP 1200 series IP set-top boxes and MPEG-4 AVC Video Encoders (formerly from Modulus Video).

“Entering the multifamily market segment with a leader like RealPage is a huge win for us. Its unique approach to IPTV validates our investment to support a wide range of wholesale/retail business models,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “We are extremely proud that our extensive partner ecosystem and quality customer service continue to set us apart in this competitive market.”

RealPage joins Verimatrix’s ongoing IPTV wholesale/retail customer deployments, which include Avail Media, IPTV-Americas and Falcon Communications. RealPage plans on launching its IPTV service in Q2 of this year.
