YouView catch-up and on demand TV available now from JT

YouView, the new subscription-free TV service which seamlessly combines catch-up and on demand TV, has today been launched exclusively in the Channel Islands by JT (Jersey Telecom).

YouView offers seven day catch-up from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 as well as a library of on demand television programmes, films and radio. The easy to use TV service has all local free to air digital channels, including HD and additional content available from Now TV powered by Sky and milkshake! It also has record, pause and rewind TV functionality as well as a simple search feature.

YouView also provides access to all of the free digital channels in the Channel Islands, with the unique addition of catch-up TV embedded within the on-screen programme guide, allowing users to scroll back in time up to seven days to view their favourite programmes

YouView is made available through a set-top box which is connected to an existing digital TV aerial and a broadband internet service. The YouView set-top box is now available in the Channel Islands exclusively from JT, either FREE or with selected JT fibre and home broadband packages, or to purchase for a one-off price. Unlike other locally available hybrid/internet or satellite TV services, YouView is truly subscription-free to all and is fast becoming the UK’s most popular non-subscription service.

Barna Kutvolgyi, M.D of JT’s Global Consumer business unit said: “We are delighted to introduce YouView exclusively into the Channel Islands’ market as a cost effective alternative to subscription based TV services and as an enhancement to existing free-to-air TV. Which is why we are also very proud to be among the first UK internet service providers to introduce YouView, which is backed by the leading national TV channels, so bringing a new way of watching television to more homes.”

He added: “However, to enjoy the benefits of emerging technologies such as this service, fast and reliable broadband is essential. Our decision to launch YouView therefore represents the first of many internet enhanced services that we will be introducing for Islanders to take full advantage of our new JT fibre optic superfast broadband service.”

Richard Halton, Chief Executive Officer, YouView said, “It’s great news that YouView is now available in the Channel Islands allowing more and more people to enjoy this new TV service in their home. YouView offers a great way to search for, record and catch up on your favourite television – subscription-free.”

YouView from JT is available for journalists to trial should you wish to see the service in action. To reserve your demonstration unit, please contact Pauline Ramskill at Direct Input on telephone 01534 735253.
