ViXS System-on-Chip (SoC) Delivers High Concurrency Media Processing That IPTV, Satellite and Cable Operators Will Use to Cost-Effectively Expand Their Multiscreen Services

TORONTO — ViXS today announced that KAONMEDIA has chosen the ViXS XCode 4208 for its Entry Level Gateway (ELG), creating a new category of cost-effective multiscreen gateways. The ELG is one of the first “Headless Gateway” set-top boxes that, instead of connecting directly to a TV, transcodes and wirelessly streams content directly to client devices both on the home network and outside the home.

In addition to the traditional functions of a set-top box, the ELG simultaneously transcodes in real time two High Definition (HD) IPTV, Cable or Satellite channels to enable content delivery to all major client device platforms, such as iOS, MacOS, Android and Windows.

Employing ViXS’ Xtensiv™ Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA®) software, the ELG can be the controller or can allow mobile devices to be the controller for mobile streaming and N-screen video distribution within the home. The ELG can be configured with Satellite, Cable or Terrestrial tuners, as well as optional Wi-Fi.

“We are pleased to be working with ViXS on this revolutionary product that allows consumers constant access to their content,” said HS Lim, CEO/Founder of KAONMEDIA. “The XCode SoC has enabled us to design a very unique and cost effective headless gateway product with a high level of concurrency, good network performance, excellent video quality, and with concurrent N-screen support”.

“We are excited that KAONMEDIA has chosen ViXS for their next-generation gateway product”, said Sally Daub, President and CEO of ViXS Systems. “Consumer demand for anytime, anywhere entertainment is dramatically altering the TV viewing experience and KAONMEDIA is emerging as an early leader in this exciting market”.
