Leading Mexican Telecommunications Company Chooses VCAS for IPTV to Seamlessly Protect Existing and Future Network Configurations

LAS VEGAS, NV — NAB Show 2013 — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that AXTEL, a Mexican telecommunications company, has chosen the Verimatrix Video Content Authority (VCAS™) for IPTV solution to secure its new service, which combines IPTV broadcast channels with multi-screen video-on-demand (VoD), a network-based personal video recorder (PVR) and interactive content via IP, along with access to free-to-air DTT broadcasts channels.

The new service is AXTEL’s first media service over its fiber network, helping AXTEL achieve its triple-play vision of video, voice and broadband. AXTEL selected VCAS™ for IPTV because of its robust revenue protection capabilities and scalability, which will allow AXTEL to easily add over-the-top (OTT) or even direct-to-home (DTH) satellite services using the same core platform in the future. As the global number one solution in IPTV content protection, VCAS enables the secure delivery of linear TV broadcast and on-demand video services, and offers a solid upgrade platform that AXTEL can use to cost-effectively enhance its competitive advantage.

“We strive to ensure our valued subscribers have a superior quality of experience (QoE) with access to the most popular and entertaining content available,” said Jenaro Martinez Lopez, AXTEL TV director. “To achieve this vision, we needed a flexible revenue security solution that could provide robust protection for our existing services along with the multi-network capability to satisfy future customer demand beyond our managed network. We are confident that the proven and reliable VCAS multi-network platform meets both our immediate and potential future requirements.”

Ericsson deployed and integrated the end-to-end next generation TV platform, including an MPEG-4 AVC head-end for linear and on-demand standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) TV channels, and the Ericsson Multi-screen TV Solution. VCAS for IPTV is integrated with the Ericsson solutions, which are installed on set-top-boxes (STB) made by Kaon Media. The STBs also feature EPG navigation by Mirada.

“With an extensive partner ecosystem, Verimatrix is extremely well poised to help operators around the globe realize their goals,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. “We are delighted to be working with Ericsson, Kaon and Mirada to help AXTEL achieve its vision and further extend the reach of its popular services in the competitive Mexican pay-TV market.”

VCAS for IPTV is a fully integrated component of the umbrella VCAS architecture, which enables secure video delivery across a broad range of networks and device types. VCAS shifts the value proposition beyond content protection, towards the broader perspective of revenue security. Digital TV operators are able to address new opportunities in the accelerating convergence of video delivery over various types of networks to a multitude of devices. VCAS for IPTV offers flexibility in choice of client devices, broad middleware interoperability and proven scalability. For six straight years, Verimatrix has been ranked number one globally in IPTV content protection and DRM by market research firm Multimedia Research Group, Inc. (MRG).
