  • SRS TruSurround XT creates a high quality surround sound experience from only two speakers
  • Hylab’s Digital TV Converter Boxes allow TV viewers to use existing analog TVs when the DTV transition occurs in early 2009

SANTA ANA, Calif. — SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRSL), a leading provider of surround sound, audio enhancement and voice processing technologies, announced today that Hylab Technology, Inc., will include SRS Labs’ patented TruSurround XT virtual surround sound technology in three new models of Digital TV (DTV) Converter boxes.

Hylab Technology’s new DTV Converter boxes allow users of older analog TVs to continue using their sets after the digital TV transition in 2009. After February 17, 2009, there will no longer be any over-the-air analog TV transmissions in the United States, therefore, standard definition televisions and users that are dependant on TV broadcasts via antenna will require a DTV converter box such as the models ATB7707, STB-A7707 and DTB7710 provided by Hylab through cooperation with Perpetual Action Group (Asia) Inc. (ODM for Avion, SpectroniQ, including several other major USA-based brands as well as Metronic and Alba products).

Hylab chose to include SRS TruSurround XT in their DTV converter boxes because of the unique and demonstrable features it provides. Not only will users be able to continue the use of their standard definition televisions, but they will also be able to enjoy an exciting home theater audio entertainment experience. SRS TruSurround XT makes this possible because it creates a completely immersive surround sound experience from the TVs internal speakers.

“Thanks to our partnership with SRS we will be able to furnish consumers with enhanced audio features with the SRS features built into the converter boxes to supplement and enhance their existing A/V system. This will add an exciting extra dimension to their viewing and listening pleasure,” says Chrise Lee, CEO of Hylab Technologies, “making the decision to purchase this solution a “no-brainer.”

SRS TruSurround XT, having been included in tens of millions of TVs, is the world’s leading virtual surround sound technology. It processes up to 7-channels of audio for playback over two speakers. When receiving multichannel content, TruSurround XT virtualizes the channels creating “phantom” speakers that appear to extend all around the listener, producing an amazing and realistic surround sound effect. Users also experience deep, rich bass enhancement and improved dialog clarity. When receiving a mono or stereo signal, TruSurround XT presents an expansive three-dimensional sound field for a truly immersive audio experience.

“Adding SRS TruSurround XT brings a different dimension to the existing analog TV viewing experience, which currently possesses enormous technical limitations versus HDTV,” said Gabriel Guglielmi, General Manager of the Consumer Business Unit, Home Video Division, STMicroelectronics. “Through Hylab’s superior design we are bringing consumers unmatched entertainment enjoyment without the need for additional hardware. TruSurround XT is a proven technology across our product line and we are pleased to deploy it within this important market.”

All of Hylab’s DTV converter boxes use the STMicrolectronics chip, STi77xx. STMicroelectronics is a long time platform partner of SRS Labs and the STi77xx semiconductor embeds the SRS TruSurround XT directly into the chipset, offering fast and simple implementation. Integration of TruSurround XT further enhances the overall audio experience, without the need for additional equipment or programming.

“Adding SRS TruSurround XT brings a different dimension to the existing analog TV viewing experience which currently possesses great technical limitations against HDTV. Combined with Hylab’s superior design we are bringing the consumers unmatched entertainment enjoyment without a need of any additional hardware set up. TruSurround XT is a proven technology we have supported through our product line up and are pleased to deploy it within this important market,” said Gabriel Guglielmi, General Manager of the Consumer Business Unit within ST’s Home Video Division.
