Schwaiger and iWedia to combine Android with SAT>IP and CI Plus in a product showcased at IFA 2013

  • iWedia has ported its Android-operated turn key software solution for hybrid STB – which gives support to both SAT>IP (client) and CI Plus – on Schwaiger’s STB
  • Schwaiger will extend its SAT>IP product range with a CI Plus enabled IP thin client STB
  • SAT>IP is used to complement a device primarily used for media playback and OTT services with live TV reception capabilities
  • Content protection is managed at the client side thanks to CI Plus, making SAT>IP the ideal solution for premium HD content distribution within the home

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — iWedia today announced it has teamed up with Germany-based CE manufacturer Schwaiger to combine Android, SAT>IP, and CI Plus in an IP thin STB that will be showcased at IFA 2013 (in Berlin from the 6th through to the 11th of September).

iWedia’s Android-operated turn key software solution for hybrid STB – which gives support to both SAT>IP (client) and CI Plus – has been ported on Schwaiger’s IP thin client STB.

Android apps and widgets are then smoothly integrated with live TV within a media player and OTT device. The device also features HbbTV and DLNA as well as an external (over USB) PVR.

Content protection is managed at the client side thanks to CI Plus, making SAT>IP the ideal solution for premium HD content distribution within the home.

The device also supports the so-called SAT>IP static operation which makes it a solution particularly well suited for hospitality markets.

“Putting Android, SAT>IP, and CI Plus together results in a killing combination,” said Nikola Smiljković, Product Manager at iWedia. “It transforms an IP-only OTT device into a genuine Pay TV STB,” he added.

“And this allows to deliver the best of Android apps together with the best of premium HD contents,” added Axel Mack, Key Account Manager at Schwaiger.

The product is showcased at IFA on the Schwaiger (Audiovox) booth (hall 1.2, stand 213).

iWedia is an active supporter of the SAT>IP initiative and has released a full range of products compliant with this protocol. The offering is made of stand alone software components and of complete software solutions for both server and client devices.
