NEWARK, Calif. — CopperGate Communications, the leading provider of home networking technology for triple play IPTV over existing coax and phone wires, today announced that Aliant has begun using CopperGate’s CopperStream HomePNA 3.1 chipset integrated into set-top boxes and other Ethernet-over-Coax products for deployment of its new IPTV service offering. Aliant is the leading IPTV service provider in Atlantic Canada.

“HomePNA allows us to use the existing wires in our customers’ homes to reduce installation times for Aliant TV’s growing customer base without compromising performance,” said Gary Lund, Aliant’s Chief Technical Officer. “We are pleased that there are now off-the-shelf products available to Aliant that incorporate the HomePNA 3.1 standard to simplify the in-home experience for our end user customers.”

Aliant TV was launched in June 2005 and is now available in Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax), Nova Scotia; Moncton, New Brunswick; and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Aliant TV delivers digital picture and sound quality and features over 200 fully digital television channels and over 170 digital audio services, pay-per-view and an easy-to-use electronic (on-screen) program guide.

Aliant is an early leader in the rapidly building shift of telcos to offering triple play services,” said William Simmelink, CopperGate President. “We are pleased to see Aliant join other leading telcos around the world, who are specifying HomePNA 3.1 as their technology platform of choice for home deployments.”

CopperGate’s CopperStream chipsets provide a complete HomePNA 3.1 home networking solution that operates over both coax cables and phone wires. CopperStream chipsets are the first to comply with the ITU G.9954 (HomePNA 3.1) home networking standard and feature guaranteed parameter-based QoS and powerful remote management and diagnostics capabilities. HomePNA 3.1 technology is being deployed today by AT&T and other major telcos for the in-home distribution of triple play services and in Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) access applications worldwide.
