BEIJING — China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition, Hall 2, Booth #2402 –ATEME, a global leader in advanced video compression solutions for the broadcast industry, announced today that Tianjin Internet Broadcasting Television Station has successfully launched its IPTV Video on Demand (VOD) service based on TITAN, ATEME’s scalable transcoding solution.

  • Tianjin IPTV service attracts thousands – Tianjin TV, a broadcaster based in the second largest metropolitan area of Northern China, operates 11 local channels. Tianjin Internet Broadcasting Television Station (TIBTS) – a branch of Tianjin TV – operates Tianjin IPTV, an OTT and mobile TV service in cooperation with China Unicom’s content delivery network. Offering 62 linear channels, VOD and catch-up TV, the Tianjin IPTV service has already attracted more than 400,000 subscribers since TIBTS started testing it with China Unicom in May 2011.
  • Multi-profile, multi-bitrate platform – TIBTS has deployed ATEME’s scalable transcoding solution, TITAN, to generate on-demand content simultaneously in Adobe® RTMP, Apple® HLS and Microsoft® Smooth Streaming for playback in the home or on-the-go, with set-top-boxes, PCs or mobile devices running iOS or Android operating systems.
  • ATEME selected for video quality – TIBTS performed extensive video compression tests based on its network bandwidth constraints and selected TITAN for its superior picture quality even at very low bitrates.

Mr. Huang He, vice general manager and senior engineer of Tianjin Internet Broadcasting Television Station, said: “Operational performance was a major consideration when we defined the architecture of our transcoding farm. ATEME provides an all-in-one, flexible solution that includes not only the functionality for any input or output, but also a centralized management interface and the ability to add more capacity as we grow.”
