Mobile digital TV in Punta del Este
Friday, January 25th, 2008ANCEL launches, for the first time in the region, digital TV based on the DVB-H standard
From January 25th, Punta del Este will have a service that allows direct-to-home digital TV on portable devices such as mobile phones. To enable the service, ANCEL has already made available new mobile terminals.
The service uses the European Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld system, better known as DVB-H, which was recently approved by the Government as the official mobile TV standard. The technology allows viewers to see digital tv, with high quality audio and video, on DVB-H equipped cellular equipment.
In the first stage of testing five channels will be transmitted (Canal 7 Cerro Pan de Azúcar, Canal 5 TVEO, Canal C5N of Argentina, Televisión Nacional de Chile and Record from Brazil), though the DVB-H system can support up to 30 simultaneous channels.
ANCEL is a pioneer in bringing this technology to Uruguay and the region, with the noted support and technical collaboration of Nokia.
