Beamr Video Cuts HEVC Bitrate by 50%, Enabling Ultra HD Delivery to Broadband-connected Consumers

  • Patent-pending Video Optimization Technology Reduces Video Bitrates by 50 Percent While Retaining Original Quality, Enables Groundbreaking HEVC Demo at NAB

TEL AVIV, Israel and LAS VEGAS — Beamr Video, a next-generation video optimization technology enabling smooth delivery of HD and 4K video at speed and quality levels never before imaginable, will demonstrate reduction of 4K HEVC bitrates by up to 50% with no visual quality loss at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, April 7-10, 2014. NAB is the world’s largest electronic media show, covering the development, management and delivery of content across all mediums.

On display at Booth #SU13910 in the South Hall of NAB, the Beamr Video optimization technology automatically reduces the bitrate of any H.264 or HEVC video stream by up to 50 percent, enabling a smoother streaming experience with reduced buffering and faster stream start, resulting in increased monetization, longer viewing times, and cost savings in both delivery and storage. These benefits are achieved without any change to the perceptual quality or format of the original stream.

Smoother Streaming and Lower Delivery Costs

By reducing video bitrates, Beamr Video significantly improves user experience and overcomes bandwidth challenges present in both broadband and mobile delivery. Beamr Video enables MSO’s, Internet content providers, network operators, video-on-demand (VOD) services and over-the-top (OTT) service providers to distribute exceptionally high quality video on bandwidth constrained connections, while cutting delivery costs by up to 50%. Beamr Video produces fully compliant H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) and HEVC video streams, making high quality video accessible from any media player, browser or consumer device such as connected televisions, Blu-ray players, smartphones or tablets, without installing additional software.

Enabling 4K HEVC OTT Today

Currently deployed and field-tested by major studios and OTT distributors of television shows and Hollywood movies, Beamr Video’s patent-pending automated video optimization algorithms enable a high-quality streaming experience that ensures the maximum quality with the lowest bitrate.

“The industry is moving forward this year with 4K Ultra HD deployment, and HEVC has been selected as the next-generation codec that will enable this transformation. But there is still a big gap between the lowest bitrates acceptable by the industry for 4K HEVC, which are around 15-20 Mbps, and the bandwidth capabilities of most consumers,” said Sharon Carmel, founder and CEO of Beamr, the innovative media optimization technology company that already powers several of the world’s leading media companies, social networks and web publishers.

“Beamr has figured out how to solve this problem by reducing 4K HEVC bitrates by up to 50%, with no effect on the perceived visual quality. This enables efficient distribution of Ultra HD content to residential customers over existing Internet connections,” said Carmel. “And for companies who are delivering HD content today using H.264, Beamr Video enables a smoother streaming experience and significant cost savings by lowering H.264 bitrates up to 50%, and preserving the original video quality”.
