Massive Interactive delivers Australia’s first HbbTV-based service for FreeviewPlus

  • New FreeviewPlus service built on market leading Massivision™ Managed Video Platform (MVP)

LONDON / SYDNEY — Massive Interactive Inc. (OTCQB: HUGE), a leader in platform software and design for multiscreen TV Everywhere entertainment, today announced that it has delivered the first HbbTV based service in Australia for FreeviewPlus. FreeviewPlus is a new service that provides access to content from Australia’s free-to air networks, embracing the latest update to the Australian broadcast standard that incorporates HbbTV functionality for dual broadcast and IP content delivery. FreeviewPlus will be available through new connected receivers carrying the FreeviewPlus logo, including panel TVs, set top boxes and recording devices.

The FreeviewPlus solution is built around the Massivision™ Managed Video Platform (MVP), which includes Massive’s Multi-screen Development Kit and Storefront Manager (MDK and MSM) products, and will deliver the most advanced, user-friendly free-to-air EPG experience in Australia, with catch-up services accessed from a single interface on TV screens for the first time.

The FreeviewPlus service, which is due to go live later this year will feature:

  • A 7-day forwards and catch-up EPG
  • FTA catch-up TV accessed through the EPG and channel portals
  • Showcasing of shows across all FTA networks
  • Ability to browse and search programs for the next 7 days
  • Favourites and reminders functions.

“Working with Massive Interactive has enabled us to create an unprecedented service that our member free-to-air networks are proud to present to the Australian consumer market”, said Liz Ross, General Manager of Freeview Australia. “Massive Interactive’s ability to provide a cost-effective, robust and scalable service that delivers a simple, attractive and easy to navigate HbbTV EPG user interface through their MVP, is the key technology enabler for the FreeviewPlus service”.

The Massivision™ MVP provides FreeviewPlus with a fully scalable end-to-end EPG solution. One of the key MVP features used for the successful delivery of this project is the Massivision™ MDK Multi-device Development Kit, a powerful TV-centric software component set for fast and cost-effective application delivery to multiple consumer devices, including all major Smart TVs and set top boxes. In addition, MDK has been key to the efficient and cost effective delivery of this HbbTV standard service.

“Building on our experience with HbbTV in Europe, we have delivered an HbbTV standard service for a client and truly showcased the flexibility and effectiveness of both our team and technology”, said Max Ramsay, COO Massive Interactive. “FreeviewPlus is setting the standards for the next generation of Freeview services and I am very proud that Massive Interactive has had such an integral role in bringing this project to life”.
