The Wireless Genie Mini Eliminates Clutter of Cable Wires and Boxes in Every Room; Customers Have Freedom to Move TVs Anywhere in the Home and Connect Multiple TVs Wirelessly

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — DIRECTV’s new Wireless Genie Mini (WGM), which gives customers the freedom to place their TVs anywhere they want and enjoy a full HD DVR experience on every TV without seeing the clutter of cable wires and boxes in every room, is now available to all DIRECTV customers nationwide.

Beginning today DIRECTV is launching a new national advertising campaign to support the rollout of the WGM’s dubbed “Marionettes”. In typical DIRECTV fashion, the TV creative highlights the benefits of wireless boxes in a truly unexpected way.

Each WGM acts just like an HD DVR – recording, pausing and rewinding live TV, with the ability to fast-forward and delete pre-recorded shows from any room in the home. Customers also have complete access to DIRECTV’s on demand programming platform if their DIRECTV Genie™ is connected to the Internet. In addition, customers can begin watching their favorite show in one room and finish it in another.

“Along with our technologically advanced DIRECTV Genie, which is now capable of wireless distribution, we’re proud to launch the new Wireless Genie Mini that will allow customers to eliminate messy cable wires and boxes in every DIRECTV’s New Wireless Genie Mini Now Available Nationwide room,” said Romulo Pontual, executive vice president and CTO for DIRECTV. “Customers will love the simplicity of wirelessly connecting multiple TV’s to their DIRECTV Genie anywhere inside the home or even in their backyard.”

DIRECTV customers interested in a Wireless Genie Mini (WGM) will need to have both a DIRECTV Genie — the entertainment hub of the home — and a Wireless Video Bridge (WVB) professionally installed, which gives them the flexibility to add additional TVs in any room. Customers can just call in to DIRECTV and have an additional WGM sent to them and easily install it.

Setting up a WGM is simple. The DIRECTV Genie connects to the Whole Home Network via coax wiring. The WGM’s then connect to the Genie wirelessly on a private, secure network created by the WVB. Customers can tuck the WGM behind their television and never see cable boxes and wires again.

New customers who take a Genie HD DVR can upgrade to wireless for just $99.
