ViXS and Intel Team Up on Media Processing SoCs to Address Cable, IPTV and Satellite Markets
- Collaboration to Deliver Industry’s First Headed Video / Networking Gateway to Support 10-bit HEVC
TORONTO, ON — ViXS Systems Inc. (TSX: VXS), a pioneer and leader in media processing solutions, today announced a new collaboration with Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) to partner on Headed Video / Networking Gateway products based on the XCode 6400 media processing system-on-chip (SoC) solution for major service providers globally. ViXS provides best-in-class technology for transcoding, advanced media processing, and Multimedia over Coax (MoCA). ViXS has the only SoC commercially available with native support for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) MAIN10 profile and Ultra HD 4Kp60. The combined ViXS and Intel platform will bring unprecedented levels of performance, efficient cost, and increased capability to equipment manufacturers creating solutions for the industry’s dual transition to HEVC and Ultra HD.
The ViXS XCode 6400 family of 10-bit HEVC SoC solutions, combined with Intel’s PUMA chipsets, will power IP video gateways that take advantage of the incredible bandwidth of DOCSIS 3.0 while providing the transcoding capability needed for multiscreen premium content streaming. Adding MoCA capability enables whole-home distribution of high-bandwidth services, giving consumers the content and services they desire anywhere in the home. The ViXS and Intel platform also creates compelling solutions for client set-top boxes (STB’s), including RDK-based implementations.
“The combination of Intel’s DOCSIS and networking capabilities with ViXS advanced media processing and MoCA 2.0 completes a market leading solution for service providers looking to deploy systems with the headroom to support future services such as Ultra HD,” said Ran Senderovitz, General Manager, Intel’s Service Provider Division. “Intel is pleased to collaborate with ViXS to help the industry make the transition to critically important technologies such as HEVC and Ultra HD 4K.”
“ViXS is thrilled to partner with Intel to deliver market-leading platforms for the global content industry, driving the deployment of key technologies such as Ultra HD and 10-bit HEVC,” said Sally Daub, President and CEO, ViXS. “ViXS brings over a decade of innovation and leadership in media processing, and we look forward to seeing customers deploy this exciting new platform.”
