Pre-orders open for Fan TV, a next-generation device that makes cable TV worth keeping

NEW YORK — Fan TV and Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) today announced the much-anticipated release of Fan TV, a revolutionary new way to watch live TV and streaming content with a frictionless discovery experience and a breakthrough touch remote. This innovative partnership between a San Francisco start-up and the nation’s second largest cable company will make Fan TV available to Time Warner Cable video subscribers, shipping in Q2 of 2014. This announcement comes less than a year after Fan TV was first revealed on-stage at the All Things D: D11 conference.

Fan TV, in conjunction with its pay TV partners, is pioneering a different approach to bring the best live television experience to consumers. The Fan TV experience presents subscribers’ TWC TV content together with on-demand streaming services – so all choices can be seen in one screen.

“Today, discovery is backwards; you’re narrowing your options by first picking a device, then an app, then shuffling through a limited content library,” said Gilles BianRosa, CEO of Fan TV. “Fan TV brings together live TV, video-on-demand and streaming services in one simplified discovery experience where the entertainment is always front-and-center.”

“The Fan TV experience is a leap forward for the cable industry,” said Mike Angus, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Video for Time Warner Cable. “Fan TV is the perfect marriage of the compelling content we at Time Warner Cable bring to customers with the complementary services available to consumers, delivering both in a rich experience for seamless entertainment. The service leans into the multiple ways that consumers are increasingly watching their entertainment across live TV, VOD and streaming, and pulls them together in an intuitive product.”

The first wave of streaming services available on Fan TV will include Redbox Instant by Verizon, Crackle and Target Ticket, as well as the Rhapsody streaming music service. More streaming services will be added over time.

Fan TV is available for pre-order today for $99, and will ship in Q2 of 2014. Current Time Warner Cable customers can easily upgrade to Fan TV with no additional subscription contracts or fees beyond the one-time Fan TV purchase.

Time Warner Cable serves customers in the following 29 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
