ROK Entertainment Group, the UK-based mobile technologies and applications specialist, today announced the Turkish GSM Operator, Avea, had launched a live and on-demand multi-channel mobile TV service, streamed over Avea’s EDGE cellular network, powered by ROK.

ROK TV technologies allow for the streaming of TV channels over existing 2.5G GPRS, EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

“We are delighted to have launched mobile TV in Turkey with Avea, through our regional representative Mobilturk” said Laurence Alexander, CEO of ROK “and we are confident of significant subscriber uptake over the forthcoming year.”

ROK is in the midst of deploying streamed mobile TV services to several dozen cellular operators worldwide with the most recent launches being in Thailand with AIS and in Pakistan with Telenor.

ROK TV is also available in Europe as a direct-to-consumer application via Nokia Eseries devices such as the E61i and the E65.

“ROK believes, as do our partner telcos, that streamed mobile TV – offering both live news and sports as well as on-demand content – represents a much higher value in the eyes of the viewer than full-length linear TV broadcast to mobiles” added Alexander.
