Sky to launch subscription video on demand service this year

SKY Television (NZX: SKT) announced today that it will launch a Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) service before the end of 2014.

The service will stand alone from SKY’s pay television offering, available to non-SKY customers offering a selection of both television series and movie content.

SKY is also pleased to expand its successful partnership with Vodafone who will bundle SKY’s SVOD service with their broadband.

The partnership formed in 2009 has already seen more than 100,000 kiwi homes taking SKY and Vodafone services together. SKY’s premier world class content combined with Vodafone’s HD quality broadband will deliver the next generation of on demand connectivity for New Zealanders, building on the leading home entertainment packages already offered by the two companies.

John Fellet, SKY chief executive commented: “This is a really exciting new development for SKY. This new service will appeal to many Kiwis who want the flexibility to watch movies and TV series when they want on a variety of devices.

We love great content at SKY and this new service will provide another really convenient way to watch the shows and movies Kiwis love. Our team has a huge amount of experience working with local and international content suppliers. We are working hard to secure a top quality selection of content for this service.”

SKY customers will also enjoy this on demand content delivered via the internet (for no additional cost) to MY SKY decoders or via SKY GO this year.

Further announcements with SVOD service details and Vodafone package options will be made.
