The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has told the country’s Star newspaper that take up of digital terrestrial TV set-top boxes (STBs) nationwide now stands at 18%, with conversion in Nairobi largely complete.

The authority said that combined sales of pay and free-to-air boxes had reached 738,312 boxes at the end of March. 687,806 of those STBs were bought for pay TV, but many of these will have been converted to free-to-air.

The deadline for full conversion to digital TV is June 2015. Kenya has around four million TV homes.
