Vantrix, Verimatrix and Broadcom Enable Secure 4K/UHD HEVC Video Experience at IBC 2014

  • Vantrix Media Platform features 4K H.265 Content Secured With Verimatrix VCAS Delivered to Next-Generation Broadcom Set-Top-Box Reference Design

MONTREAL, QC — Vantrix, a global provider of media optimization and delivery solutions to service and content providers, is set to highlight its support for premium video services using 4K ultra high-definition (UHD) protected content through a collaboration with Verimatrix and Broadcom Corporation. Demonstrations at the IBC 2014 trade show will feature 4K H.265 content encoded with the Vantrix Media Platform (VMP) and protected with the Verimatrix Content Authority System (VCAS™) security solution, delivered to a next-generation Broadcom set-top-box reference design. The demonstration will take place in the Verimatrix booth (Hall 4.A55) at the International Broadcast Conference (IBC) in Amsterdam September 11-16, 2014.

For the IBC demo, protected 4K content will be played back on a next-generation reference design set-top box from Broadcom containing the BCM7445 4Kp60 IC.

VMP enables live and on-demand video processing for adaptive bit-rate powered multiscreen experiences. As a part of a next-generation pay-TV platform, VCAS solutions enable operators to take full advantage of next-generation UHD services and to deploy in a flexible physical or virtualized environment via an ecosystem of tightly integrated encoding, monitoring and middleware offerings.

“The Vantrix Media Platform running together with Verimatrix Content Authority System enables studio-grade content protection with high-quality, faster than real-time video processing, which is critical as the industry moves to 4K,” said Jean Mayrand, president of Vantrix Corporation. “The integration of our open modular, pluggable media workflow solution and our virtualized graphics processing with Verimatrix security and Broadcom set-top box platforms highlight a next-generation, end-to-end UHD solution.”
VMP is a software-defined video processing, optimization, caching and analytics platform deployed as a turnkey appliance for deployment on-premises or in the cloud. Built on OpenStack for virtualization, including graphics processing, it offers a modular, pluggable and extensible architecture for video transcoding and optimizing media experiences via adaptive bitrate streaming for delivery to TVs, PCs and mobile devices. A single server can run concurrent applications, such as live and video on demand (VoD) transcoding, DRM encryption, file packaging and streaming with selectable resource assignments for different uses.

“Our focus on support for 4K/UHD security at the IBC show this year is underscored by our work with Vantrix,” said Petr Peterka, CTO Verimatrix. “Our two solutions are aligned in terms of technical integration, but also in terms of approach to cloud based deployment strategies for next generation video operators.”
