Tablet TV UK launches in the United Kingdom in time for Christmas

  • Watch and record Freeview channels everywhere

Motive Television PLC, the technology provider to broadcasters and pay television operators, announces today that the Company will start taking pre-orders for TabletTV UK (TTVUK) for Christmas delivery. Customers will be able to pre-order TabletTV UK from this morning on the TabletTV UK website to ensure they will be among the first to receive the product. Once the units are ready to ship, pre-orders will be converted to orders. Amazon will be handling the distribution for TTVUK.

TabletTV UK will make it possible for viewers to watch over-the-air Freeview channels, record programmes for time-shifted viewing, and have red-button services on their tablet or mobile device in the same way as watching Freeview on their home television. There is no need to be connected to the internet, so viewers can watch programmes without the need for a subscription, hot spot, or data plan. The signal is live so there’s no added time lag when watching sport or other live events. Unlike internet-delivered video, there is no waiting until the next day or buffering required. When it is connected to the Internet, TabletTV UK even allows social networking while you are watching TV.

TabletTV UK is designed for use in your home and garden, and when you are away – camping, fishing, at sports events, in the office, in the caravan, or at the beach. Viewers can select programmes from the easy-to-use TV guide or swipe to change channels, together with Red Button services, subtitles and programme information.

The TTV UK app allows viewers to watch Freeview free-to-air TV channels on an iPad or iPhone. A version for Android tablets will be available soon and extensions to smartphones and other devices are also planned. The current app is designed to work with two tuner models: the TabletTV UK mains tuner at £64.99 and a portable tuner at £69.99 depending on the user’s needs. The mains tuner is ideal for the home, caravan, or other fixed locations, while the portable tuner provides the freedom to watch TV when the viewer is out and about.

The Company has completed approximately 1,200 technical tests as required by Freeview to qualify for Freeview certification, and this certification is currently in the final review process. All the Freeview functionalities are complete and Motive is releasing TabletTV UK ahead of the certification to make it available as a great stocking filler for Christmas.

Although there is no guarantee as to the full financial impact to Motive, the Company believes that the deal provides the potential for a significant uplift in the Company’s revenues over the next few years.

Leonard M Fertig, CEO of Motive commented, “The launch of TabletTV UK is an important milestone for Motive and for lovers of live television viewing. Personal live TV-viewing on tablets is a dramatic change in viewing habits and marks a continual sea change in the television industry. Motive is pleased to be an industry leader in making it possible for viewers to watch what they want, when they want and where they want.”
