Akamai Media Delivery solutions enable eMedia to reach global audiences and grow subscriber base with broadcast-quality digital content

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader in Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, today announced that eMedia Network is using Akamai’s Media Delivery Solutions to deliver broadcast-quality video and radio content on its global OTT/IPTV platform, iON. The partnership has enabled eMedia to improve customer experiences and penetrate new markets across Europe, North America and Oceania (Australia and New Zealand).

eMedia specializes in digital video broadcasting, distribution and monetization of multicultural television and radio content. The company has been delivering IPTV for more than seven years and its successful niche business is built on a commitment to providing reliable and high-quality content. The shift to Akamai has helped eMedia gain subscribers and partners while reaching new audiences and reducing abandonment rates. The provider has also introduced new, value-add services, secured access to all network operators and simplified vendor and network management.

“We are serving a small, niche market so quality is key because the community talks. If we do not offer the best service, in time, no one will watch our programming. By being on the Akamai platform, we can serve all networks and all devices efficiently and at broadcast quality,” said Mark Lobwein, Executive Chairman, eMedia Network. “Together with our network partners and Akamai, we are wowing audiences around the world with interactive experiences that are at the forefront of online video.”

To deliver more than 100 linear channels, eMedia is using Akamai Media Services Live, which includes multiple ingest points to access the scale and reach of its globally distributed Intelligent Platform. Akamai’s Adaptive Media Delivery is designed to help ensure that content is delivered to viewers at optimal quality while automatically adjusting to multiple network types and varying connection speeds. And Akamai’s cloud-based NetStorage enables eMedia’s partners to offer catch-up and on-demand services thanks to immediately available storage capabilities.

“eMedia is showing how OTT providers can partner with Akamai to execute on innovative business and technology models that bring compelling, valuable content to targeted audiences at the high level of quality that they’ve come to expect,” said John Bishop, CTO, Media, Akamai. “The combination of Akamai’s Media Delivery Solutions and pervasive CDN support the quality and scale that eMedia requires to satisfy existing partners and viewers while expanding the reach of its OTT/IPTV service to new customers around the world.”
