SÃO PAULO — Irdeto, a world leader in digital platform security, today announced Movile, the industry leader for development of mobile content and commerce platforms in Latin America, has selected Irdeto Rights to manage the multi-DRM support and content protection of its hugely popular PlayKids platform, extending its device reach. Irdeto’s DRM-agnostic solution, which includes support for Apple FairPlay Streaming, will protect Movile’s newly-licensed high-value video entertainment from Disney and The Cartoon Network.

Movile launched PlayKids in 2013 for children aged 5 and under. Movile recently launched more applications on PlayKids’ portfolio, including the ebook app Playkids Stories and the communicator PlayKids Talk. Both video apps contain popular age-appropriate video, games and books. As of February 2016, PlayKids is the #1 children’s app in more than 25 countries and the #1 grossing subscription platform for kids globally at the App Store. Additionally, the app has had more than 17 million downloads worldwide on iOS and Android devices since its launch.

Movile selected Irdeto Rights to enable quick time-to-market and secure delivery of premium content on PlayKids apps. The implementation with Irdeto will support hundreds of live streaming and download & go options for PlayKids on iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as Apple TV.

“Irdeto’s highly scalable solution enabled us to support live streaming and download & go premium content for the PlayKids apps across multiple devices, while remaining in compliance with our licensing agreements,” said Eduardo Henrique, Co-Founder & Head of Global Expansion at PlayKids. “Since deploying Irdeto Rights, we have been able to roll out our new premium entertainment offer quickly and cost-effectively, ensuring that children around the world can continue to enjoy the variety and quality of entertainment we are known for.”

This announcement comes on the heels of the recent appointment of Alexandra Larsson as regional sales director for Latin America. Ms. Larsson will support key customers in the region and brings more than 15 years of experience with multinational technology companies such as IBM, Motorola and Cisco Systems.

“Movile’s tremendous success is a result of a strong commitment to quality content in a format that fits in with a child and parent’s lifestyle,” said Larsson. “We were uniquely able to provide Movile with a solution that was flexible, scalable and met studio-requirements. Our solution also supported a ‘Freemium’ business model that combines free-to-view content with optional paid-for content. It is important to be able to test different business models and revenue possibilities without losing time or getting lost in complexity. Irdeto Rights was able to offer that for Movile and PlayKids.”

Through the use of Irdeto’s ActiveCloak technology with Secure Key Exchange (SKE) and an integration of Apple FairPlay Streaming, PlayKids content will meet studio requirements for premium content streamed and downloaded on iOS and Android devices and Apple TV devices.
