DishTV and ALi Corp. Join in Strategic Partnership to Target DTH Expansion in India

TAIPEI, NOIDA and NEW DELHI — ALi Corporation, a leading Set-Top Box (STB) chipset provider, and DishTV, Asia’s largest Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator, have joined forces in a strategic partnership to enhance existing DTH operations and target future expansion opportunities. The partnership project is based on ALi Corp.’s cutting-edge technologies to provide a high-performance and cost-effective STB solution with next-generation security tailored specifically for the India market. It aims to provide futuristic user experiences and value-added services to expand DishTV’s market share and increase revenue stream.

India’s DTH satellite pay-TV sector remains a growth oriented industry. Media Partners Asia forecasts that India’s DTH pay-TV sector will generate revenues of $ 4.04 billion by 2018 and $ 5.6 billion by 2023. The DTH active subscriber base will increase to 60 million by 2018 and 70 million by 2023. This implies a 39% share of the overall market by 2023 and a 56% share of the digital pay-TV market. The explosive growth potential poses great challenges in terms of technologies, costs, content security and revenue protection. To DTH operators that look to stay ahead of the game, chipset technology plays an important role in their abilities to provide differentiating offerings and value-added services that will help ramp up subscriber additions.

“DishTV serves over 13 million subscribers, 27% of the Indian DTH market,” said V K Gupta, COO, DishTV. “To maintain our market leadership and capture expansion opportunities in India, it is crucial that we provide our subscribers high quality and affordable set-top boxes that enable differentiating features such as high definition video, a variety of VAS, middleware support and content security. Upon detailed review, we selected ALi Corp. as our next generation platform and strategic partner in SOC domain. Their current products, teams, partners and upcoming roadmap provide us confidence that we will serve our subscribers well and the partnership will help us tap into additional revenue opportunities.”

“Ranked among the world’s top 3 with a good chance to be further boosted amid the industry reshuffle, ALi Corp. has a proven track record in delivering high-performing and competitive STB chipset solutions,” said Tony Chang, Chief Operating Officer of ALi Corp. “The DishTV deployment of ALi Corp. platforms further signifies global leading partners’ recognition on our achievements. We are certain that the alliance will keep bringing innovative offerings and revolutionary features to Indian viewers and we will continue to fully support DishTV in its business expansion.”
