Advanced content protection enabes new experience for viewers and new revenue models for cable and satellite operators

BANGKOK, Thailand — Irdeto, the proven expert in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile networks, has announced that TrueVisions UBC, Thailand’s leading digital pay-TV operator, has extended the functionality of its existing Irdeto Digital TV solution to secure its new PVR (personal video recorder) product.

TrueVisionsUBC is the largest subscription-based television provider in Thailand, offering over 80 channels covering infotainment, news, entertainment and sports programs such as English Premiership matches.

The Irdeto PVR solution, delivered in collaboration with Humax and OpenTV, will enable TrueVisions’ subscribers to experience enhanced features like content recording andplayback and live pause. Subscribers will be able to record up to 140 hours of TV programs, control live TV the way they want, and access interactive TV services such as the Football Live Score service and a variety of games. The PVR will be available to both TrueVisions UBC satellite and cable subscribers in Thailand.

Irdeto’s content security for PVRs ensures that broadcast signals are stored in encrypted form on the hard drive, and it also allows the operator to control the availability of the PVR functionality. This gives the operator the option to charge a subscription fee for use of the PVR if they so choose. Irdeto also offers additional advanced DRM functionality that enables operators to offer subscription or impulse pay-per-view video on demand (VOD) services, which are downloaded in pre-encrypted form to the hard drive of the PVR. This enables consumers to enjoy new, on-demand services while ensuring operators comply with the security and usage requirements of content providers.

“Irdeto has been a key partner in our efforts to offer compelling and advanced services to better enable our customers’ lifestyle to enjoy television and other value added services.,” said Ongard Prapakamol, Chief Commercial Officer of TrueVisions UBC. “Their solutions enable us to fulfill our product strategy in providing a well integrated PVR with highly intuitive user experience and compelling interactive TV services like football live score, games, and much more exciting services to come.
