Intertrust Announces Dolby Vision Compatibility with ExpressPlay DRM for Hardware Security on HDR TVs

  • This Solution protects content creators’ rights while delivering breathtaking Ultra-High Definition (UHD) home video content

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — Intertrust Technologies Corporation today announced that the Intertrust ExpressPlay cloud-based digital rights management (DRM) system is now compatible with Dolby Vision™, the premium high dynamic range (HDR) imaging format for Ultra-High Definition (UHD) content. This solution will aid and accelerate UHD deployments worldwide by offering TV manufacturers and content service providers hardware-level protection for Dolby Vision media from packaging to playback.

A globally available solution, the Marlin DRM open standard is broadly deployed in Greater China, Europe and Japan, and is used by major video service providers in those regions. The Intertrust ExpressPlay DRM cloud supports the world’s leading DRM formats including Marlin DRM, Microsoft PlayReady, Google Widevine, Apple FairPlay and Adobe Access DRM.

Dolby Vision, which leverages the same underlying technology used in the most advanced movie theatres for a more cinematic experience, enables captivating content experiences with breathtaking highlights, deep contrast, and colors never-before-seen on standard displays. Because of the near-master quality of video transmitted over the Internet, content security is more critical than ever to protect the rights and interests of content creators. Built by Intertrust, the inventor of DRM, ExpressPlay provides the highest levels of security and rights management for Dolby Vision content. The solution is available on multiple SoC platforms including MStar, Realtek and Amlogic, with new SoC platforms added frequently.

“Dolby and Intertrust have each pioneered groundbreaking technologies that have revolutionized digital entertainment over many decades, with Dolby setting the standard for audio and video quality and Intertrust setting the standard for security and trust in content protection,” said Curt Behlmer, SVP, Content Solutions & Industry Relations, Dolby Laboratories. “Intertrust’s choice to support Dolby Vision will establish a one-stop, secure video solution for Dolby Vision HDR that will allow content providers and distributors the ability to protect their offerings reliably.”

“Dolby Vision is much more than an HDR format – it is an end-to-end technology for creating, distributing and playing content,” said Kenny Huang, Managing Director, Greater China, S. Korea and ASEAN region, Intertrust Technologies Corporation. “Dolby Vision compatibility with ExpressPlay protects content according to Hollywood’s highest standards for UHD while reliably delivering the premium quality audiences demand. We’re excited to be supporting Dolby Vision to provide astonishing content to home audiences around the world.”
