Sigma Designs Introduces World’s First UHD TV SoC With 100/120Hz Full Featured Integrated Frame Rate Converter

FREMONT, CA — Sigma Designs® (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of Smart TV platforms and IoT devices announced today its breakthrough single-chip Smart UHD TV SoC solution that improves picture quality and audio performance of while lowering board costs and meeting TV market demand for low profile form factor. Designed to be used in the highest quality UHD televisions, the new STV7804 offers a rich feature set including universal High Dynamic Range (HDR), 100/120Hz frame rates, and high performance processors.

“Prior to the STV7804, the industry has had to sacrifice audio and picture quality by compromising frame rate converter performance in a single chip solution,” Alfred Chan, Sigma Designs vice-president of marketing for smart TV products. “Sigma has changed the equation, and for the first time is delivering a UHD 100/120Hz class full featured ME/MC (Motion-Estimated/Motion Compensated) Frame Rate Convertor and a Best-in-Class HDR (High Dynamic Range) in a single chip with a highly optimized memory interface. The design provides twice the CPU and GPU performance to meet the latest Smart TV applications including Android and UHD CAST TV.”

To advance audio performance, the STV7803/04 family has incorporated a brand new Sigma proprietary optimized 1.2 GHz Twin Audio DSP Engine, capable of performing the latest 3D immersive audio objects and channel processing that can support Dolby ATMOS/AC-4 and MPEG-H. This new audio architecture breaks new ground for front speakers and sound bar designs for TV OEMs taking realistic sound experience to the next level.

While most competitors are working on their first generation of HDR solutions, STV7804 represents Sigma’s 3rd Generation of High Dynamic Range and Wide Color Gamut designs. This mature platform offers a universal programmable HDR Engine that supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and a new HDR standard called HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) with Rec-2020 Wide Color Gamut. In addition, Sigma widens its PQ (picture quality) superiority with its 3rd generation Super resolution technology design.

STV7804 is a world-wide TV SoC. To enable fast time to market, STV7804 comes with production-proven software solutions for major geographical regions. STV7803 is the 60Hz version with integrated FRC.

The STV7803 and STV7804 will be demonstrated at IFA 2016, September 2-7 in Berlin (Sigma Designs Hall 6.2 Stand 106) and IBC 2016 September 9-13 in Amsterdam (Sigma Designs Suite BM7). Volume manufacturing and delivery will begin in the first quarter of 2017.
