Sigma Designs’ impressive SMP8630 family of Secure Media Processors now protected by the award-winning Encryptonite ONE™ System

NATICK, MA AND MILPITAS, CA USA — SecureMedia, the technology leader in content protection software for secure video and multimedia delivery over IP networks and Sigma Designs (Nasdaq: SIGM), a leader in digital media processing System-on-Chip Solutions (SoCs) for consumer electronics, announced today that the Encryptonite ONE™ System has been integrated into the SMP 8630 family of Secure Media Processors, providing the highest levels of non-stop digital media protection for today and future consumer playback devices powered by these highly integrated, system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.

Sigma Designs’ SMP8630 media processor family integrates a complete suite of advanced capabilities with powerful multimedia processing and robust content security. For products requiring high-definition MPEG-4.10 (H.264), SMPTE 421M (VC-1), WMV9, MPEG-4.2 and MPEG-2 multi-stream decoding, the SMP8630 series also incorporates an on-chip secure processor for ultra-safe cryptographic and digital rights management (DRM) processing to meet the needs of next generation IPTV set-top boxes, Blu-Ray DVD player/recorders, digital media adapters and HDTVs.

“The combination of SecureMedia’s proven Encryptonite ONE System and our advanced SMP8630 family of Secure Media Processors offers a remarkable level of digital media protection,” said Ken Lowe, VP of strategic marketing, Sigma Designs. “We are excited to address, with SecureMedia, the ever increasing consumer appetite for high value, high definition content delivered to a variety of new and secure digital entertainment appliances.”

The Encryptonite ONE System’s patented, modular and configurable design allows for straightforward integration of cryptographic and rights management processing in secure processor architectures. Unique in the Encryptonite ONE/SMP8630 security implementation and a testament to the Encryptonite ONE System’s renowned flexibility is the ability to dynamically decrypt either of today’s popular encryption algorithms: Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and RC4.

The Encryptonite ONE System, winner of the industry’s highest award; the 2008 IPTV World Series Award for best content protection, is today’s proven multi-format, multi-platform CA/DRM software solution that provides the highest levels of digital content security while offering operational efficiencies and extended value. Approved by all major film studios and TV broadcasters, the Encryptonite ONE System allows telcos and broadband operators to acquire distribution rights to the most compelling broadcast channels and VOD programming. Its unique system design features an ultra-light, processor-efficient client that can be deployed on virtually any consumer media appliance to allow ubiquitous secure content distribution on current and future set-top boxes, PCs, portable players and mobile phones. Employing a patented, common encryption scheme for both broadcast and VOD content and through its exclusive EverLock™ process, the Encryptonite ONE System is the only solution available today that enables persistent and efficient protection of content at all times in distribution and storage including in DVR and nDVR applications. Newest innovations include exclusive platform extensions that allow for selectable digital forensics to track, identify and deter piracy of valued content (IdentiFind™), rapid middleware integration to speed time-to-market (CodeConnect™), and configurable security parameters for diverse quality content (TrustAdjust™).

“SecureMedia is excited to be a part of this successful joint initiative to provide an integrated, ultra-secure platform for enjoying entertainment on an abundance of next generation media devices,” said Fred Ellis, COO SecureMedia. “The true success of this integration will be evident later this year with the rollout of an innovative, large scale IPTV deployment based on the Encryptonite ONE/SMP8630 combination.”
