RCN First to Offer 4K Enabled Set-Top-Boxes in the Lehigh Valley

  • Award-winning cable provider announces new set-top box with 4K capabilities, Bluetooth, remote finder, and Netflix button

PRINCETON, N.J. — RCN, an award-winning provider of high-speed internet, digital TV and phone services, announces 4K and Bluetooth enabled set-top boxes are now available for the first time to Lehigh Valley, PA residents in each of its serviceable areas, including Bethlehem, Easton, Allentown and surrounding communities. Also included in the rollout is an updated TiVo interface with integrated search features, a remote finder and a new TiVo-powered remote with a one-click access button for Netflix.

4K (or Ultra HD) has enough pixels to fill four full HD 1080p screens. With 4K technology, users experience four times the level of detail, which is especially helpful on televisions that measure 50-inches and above, according to TechRadar. The crystal-clear picture provided by 4K enables customers to catch every detail of their favorite sporting events, shows and movies. During this past holiday season, Amazon announced that the bestselling televisions were 4K TVs. Over 17 million Ultra HD 4K TVs were shipped to North America and Statista predicts that shipments will reach 20 million in 2018.

“RCN’s new 4K offering is ahead of the curve for 2018 when 4K content, TVs and electronics will be in high demand,” said Sanford Ames, Jr., senior vice president and general manager of RCN Lehigh Valley. “This innovation, combined with our previous first-to-market initiatives, furthers our commitment to providing our customers with the best possible products, technology and service. Residents in the Lehigh Valley have exclusive access to near cinema-level picture quality from the comfort of their own homes, as well as some added convenience with the exciting bonus features.”

The enhanced set-top-boxes are manufactured by ARRIS International plc and enable Bluetooth capabilities. The RCN TiVo interface and its intuitive function make it seamless for customers to locate and organize 4K content. The remote finder feature utilizes the set-top-box to ping the remote, enabling customers to locate it by sound. The updated TiVo remote boasts a new Netflix button, making access to the popular streaming service quicker than ever.

RCN has a long-standing relationship with TiVo dating back to 2009. Being the first to premier TiVo in the Lehigh Valley, RCN brought customers a unified whole-home viewing experience to keep them connected to their favorite entertainment. Building on this history, RCN is committed to continually enhancing the customer experience with leading consumer products and services like 4K and 1 Gigabit internet speeds.
