Allegro DVT Announces Availability of Full Compliance Test Suite for Alliance for Open Media’s New AV1 Video Codec

GRENOBLE, France — Allegro DVT, the leading provider of video codec compliance test suites and semiconductor video IPs, announces the immediate availability of its AV1 compliance streams following the public release of the AOMedia Video Codec 1.0 (AV1) specification by the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) on March 28th, 2018. Allegro DVT’s AV1 compliance test suite consists of syntax, performance and error resilience streams and is aimed to achieve comprehensive coverage of the AV1 specification.

The AV1 test suite from Allegro DVT is the latest addition to the company’s extensive portfolio of video compliance streams and reconfirm the company’s position as a de facto industry standard for validating any video decoder solution.

AOMedia was formed in 2015 by video industry leaders such as Google, Amazon, Cisco, Netflix, Intel and Microsoft with the charter to provide an open-source, royalty-free alternative to H.265/HEVC and other video standards while improving the compression rate and delivering the same video quality at lower bitrate. Allegro DVT joined AOMedia in the early phase and has been an active working group member contributing to the AV1 video format development by tracking implementation errors. Allegro DTV has reported more than 180 issues in the libaom reference decoder contributing to strengthening the AV1 bitstream specification.

“We expect AV1 to play a major role as a new video format with rapid adoption by the industry. Allegro DVT has been developing the AV1 test suite for over a year to provide a comprehensive tool to silicon vendors to validate their decoder implementations under all conditions,” commented Nouar Hamze, CEO of Allegro DVT.

Allegro DVT’s AV1 test suite has been already adopted by more than 10 tier-1 IC vendors in US, South Korea, China and Taiwan.
