Vewd Core products, hybrid TV, and media player modules make the perfect complement to Android TV on Realtek chipsets

OSLO, Norway — Vewd, the world’s largest independent provider of OTT software, today announced Realtek, one of the world’s leading semiconductor vendors, will pre-integrate Vewd’s signature smart TV technology and essential modules with their Android TV-based chipsets. These include Vewd Core, the leading independent HTML5 SDK for connected TV devices, and essential Core modules, including the award-winning hybrid TV module, industry-leading standalone media player, and Freeview Play support module.

More than 80% of the world’s Android TV-based smart TVs already ship with Vewd software, giving manufacturers complete peace-of-mind around being market-ready. World-class support for key hybrid TV technologies, including HbbTV 2, make Vewd Core the perfect complement to Android TV.

“Vewd and Android TV together give manufacturers a compelling go-to-market proposition,” said Realtek’s Vice President and Spokesman, Yee-Wei Huang. “By pre-integrating Vewd’s technology with our Android TV chipsets, we give manufacturers a complete turnkey solution to cover their smart TV needs. With HbbTV in Europe, hybrid TV offerings will become critical for smart TVs over the coming years – Vewd ensures we’re ready today with the industry’s most robust solution.”

Vewd is one of the leading enablers of hybrid TV. Vewd’s implementation of HbbTV 2.0.1 has been named “Best Multiscreen HbbTV Service” by the HbbTV Association. Vewd was one of the key partners powering the first launch of an ATSC 3.0-based service in the U.S. in 2018.

“Ever since we helped complete the world’s first Android TV many years ago, we’ve constantly expanded our capabilities and ambitions for Android TV,” said Aneesh Rajaram, CEO, Vewd. “We’re proud to collaborate with Realtek to significantly reduce a manufacturer’s time-to-market and eliminate costly Capex from one-off integration projects, making it a surefire win for manufacturers adopting Android TV.”
