OBS Upgrades the DTVKit DVB Support to Android™ P Treble Compliance

BRISTOL — Ocean Blue Software (OBS) have extended the DVB for Android integration to make it compatible with the Android P Treble architecture and donated it to DTVKit.

As an active and founding member of DTVKit, OBS has a long track record of improving the DTVKit code base and donating those assets back to the DTVKit community. Starting with the existing Android O compatible DVB implementation OBS has upgraded it to be fully compatible with both the Open Source and Operator Tiers of Android P. This greatly reduces the time required and costs involved in migrating to Android P.

Jason Nash, General Manager for TV at OBS, said “upgrading the DTVKit DVB stack Android integration to be ‘TREBLE’ compliant was not straightforward and required us to re-implement the existing Binder based TIF integration using a HIDL based approach. However, we now have a fully functional DVB integration that members can use to accelerate the time to market for their Android ‘P’ based DVB products, with an architecture which will be compatible with future versions of Android”.

Paul Martin, CEO of OBS, commented “We are proud to continue driving the DTVKit community forward by ensuring that it continues to be compatible with the latest versions of Android as this is a key asset for the members. We have a long-term strategy to make these DVB components fully independent of the underlying silicon platform and able to run on any Android TV™ system. This implementation moves us one step closer to that objective.”

“As Android has become critical to the industry DTVKit has sought to establish itself as the preferred way to add DVB support. It is only through this sort of collaboration that we achieve this goal.” added Phil Evans Managing Director at DTVKit.

The solution is available now to all OBS customers and DTVKit members having already been proven by OBS with a number of lead customers. The solution will be demonstrated on the DTVKit stand (Hall 1.D11) at IBC 2019.
